I need a pair of tyres for my 2004 Lunar Lexon. Easy job finding a pair the same that are fitted to it now, but...........

On closer research Ive found that the 97/95 load rating is only "just enough" with not much headroom.

These tyres-  http://www.tyre-choice.co.uk/index.php?page=2&category=300&gclid=CKyojqrAhKwCFYob4QodMjwQ-w

Have the heaviest load rating available for a 13 inch wheel.

Now the tyres fitted at the moment are from what i can tell, the origonal equipment fitted when the van was new! Ive not towed it anywhere yet!

These new tyres above I thought were perectly OK unitl i read this page-

http://www.tyresafe.org/tyre-safety/caravan-tyre-safety/load-and-inflation-tables

It would appear that the maximum recomended  axle weight for this tyre size (175/13) is 1314KG.    My van has a MTPLM of 1350 KG.

Looking at the table of figures on the right listed in red is the absolute maximum permissable axle load figure of 1460KG for this size of tyre.

So, what do i go with? This size and indeed the same make are fitted to it now and guy that used to own it would tow it through Spain to the UK without problem.

I am supprised at this small amout of 'headroom' for this van and tyre size though!

Hey Gary I am a caravan mechanic in northants, the tyre safe website is only showing you tyre size in light commercials, but they do your tyre in 8ply commercial also which would be plenty strong enough for your van, you'll be best going to see your local caravan service centre they will order and fit your tyres for you, hope his helps

175R13C 97 is the 8ply, 6ply has a 94 load index.

Anyway, at 1350kg assuming you actually fully load the van? you are still 7% below the maximum, to my mind that is still an adequate 'extra' safety margin.
Looking at it another way, required tyre pressure for your van is 59psi, that's a comfortable 6psi down on the maximum

You could though choose 185/75R13 99 giving you 1550kg maximum or at less 10%, 1395kg.
Tyre pressure required for these at 1350kg is 46psi

The tyres in your link have a combined rating of 1460kg at 87mph so perfectly adequate for your caravan.

Guys, thanks very much for the replys. Its put my mind at rest. Guess im just a fussy old so&so.

I didnt know about the slightly bigger 185/75/13 but I agree, probably over kill.

Cheers all.
