HI we recently bought a 2002 Abby aventura 4 berth caravan, and took it out for the first time at easter (we usually tent so know nothing about caravans) wwe notice black bits in our water not all the time just occasionally, having read up on the subject it was mentioned it could be the water filter but we do not appear to have one our cold water inlet is a Crystal Compact housing when....my father in law flushed the system for us before we went and steralised the aquaroll so does any one have any advise or suggestions please??

can i clean the pump and blue pipes by submerging them in all in water as they seem a little grubby especiall just inside the blue pipes??

hope im making sense as i really dont know what im talking about!!!

many thanks for your help in advance x

When you say flushed the system, did you treat the water system with chemicals? I learned from helpful members on here that Puriclean is one of the better products to use. I was using Milton tablets but learned this can harm pipework etc.

What the black bits are is bacetria that has buit up and breeding in the water system. However the 'The_boys' post is absolutely right about treating the water with Puriclean and this is the reason why. Milton is used to sterilise baby equipment which is all plastic but in the caravan water system you have the hot water tank that contains the heater element and other steel objects that Milton is likely to cause damage due to a harmful bleaching chemical. Milton is okay to use on a daily basis but when your caravan has been standing for a while then a different approach needs to be taken in order to destroy the Bio-film. Puriclean is specifically designed for the leisure industry and can safely treat all the system without having to remove any pipes etc. It destroys the Bio-film which is the slimy bacteria that forms and clings to plastic walls so this is the best product to use. Click on the link below as it will explain what Puriclean does, what bacteria is destroys plus all the other related links on how to treat your water with tablets on site. Be safe and be healthy.

Not necessarily.  Are the black bits solid??

I had this in my first 'van when I had little knowledge/experience.  Turned out it was the filter - the bag inside the cylinder had split and the carbon filter grains were being pumped to all taps - took ages to get rid of them all after replacing the filter.

I thought I didn't have a filter, but where your Aqua roll pipe goes into your van to you have a small handle which you can turn? I found mine here and is the most awkward thing to get to!

They OP has already said that they have a Crystal Compact housing which is identical to mine and can confirm that this type does not have a water filter fitted. It's the square box type water inlet inlet, not the tall rectangular which does contain a filter above the water inlet which I think you will find is called the Carver Cascade.

All you do is drain the old water out of the water system first and replace the drain plug. Put the correct amount of Puriclean powder solution as advised into your Aquaroll then fill it as normal with cold water. Connect the water supply to the caravan and submerge the pump into the water barrel as you normally would. Fill up the water system completly and leave for between 1 - 12 hours. If you have black bits then I would leave for at least 10 hours if possible and that's it. All you do then is drain out the water again and the task is completed. Just re-fill with fresh water and flush it through the system again. Your Aquaroll, pump, hot water tank and all pipes have then been thoroughly sterilised.

best thing to be safe is to do it all again, puriclean in a 40 ltr barrel and fill all the system as normal and leave for four hours then flush out with a barrel of clean water.i have used milton for years but from the reports puriclean does a better job. dont forget your filler pipe too as this needs cleaning.
