Hi All, it's been a while but I thought a post on here was long overdue.
Here's one for the clever folk on here to ponder....
I have a Dometic RM6271 fridge, that works on Gas, Electric and 12V. Recently I had to replace the 240V element and on replacing this unit (which was a doddle) I noticed the gas wouldn't stay lit.
After enlisting the help of a qualified gas engineer, he kindly stripped the whole burner unit down and cleaned any possible dust and stuff out. The burner unit lights but still won't stay lit.
We scratched heads, and had a beer, and realised the problem might lie with the 'control' end of the fridge. After some continuity testing using a multimeter, it's now evident that the two black 'control' wires coming out of the switch unit are the culprits. By wiring these together the burner stays lit and all is well. We have to switch the gas off completely to put it out though, as bypassing the switch unit means it does not recognise the command to cut off the supply.
Weirdly though, if we put a continuity test across the two relevant terminals on the switch unit, it appears to operate as expected. Still baffled??
So my questions are..
1) If I've proven that hard wiring the control wires together bypasses the switch unit works, but also the switch unit is connecting and disconnecting as expected, where is the fault??
2) Has anyone else seen this fault? (and fixed it?)
3) As the control unit appears to cost £80 to replace, is there anyone who's ever taken one of these little 'thingys' apart to see if there are any servicable bits inside?
