Not very "green" is it !!

If you are throwing away all those perfectly good bulbs perhaps you could send some to me.

Good point and I have in fact already sent several quantities of my removed halogen bulbs to users of this forum, at my expense.
If you want to track me down and mail an address thru my profile, then you never know your luck.

Just went out and took a couple of pics but cant upload a pic unless its on a website it seems.

If you want to email me the pic's Pam then I can 'host-&-post' for you, we might then find someone who can shed light (excuse the pun) onto how they open up.

g7acuATyahoo.co.uk, just change the AT for the usual symbol.

Many thanks for kind offer, G7ACU.

In fact I was being a little fascetious and I am in fact changing mine over to LED as and when they fail.

I'm not too sure I like the light though.  The white ones seem to be a very "cold" light and the warm white don't seem to be bright enough.

Thank you. Will email them now.
I ordered 5 of these from ledcentre this morning. http://www.ledcentre.uk.com/253-led-g4/260-15-smd-power-3528-g4-capsule-led-light-warm-white-12v-dc.html
Hoping they will arrive before Friday.
I will put 2 in the ceiling dome light. 1 in the awning light and 2 in the front glass lamp lights. They seemed the easiest to fit!

Would love to get into the heki and bathroom lights (all identical) in the future though so good luck with trying to find an easy way to get into them. They are all chrome looking. Think they are plastic though. Also if anyone knows if/where I can get the glass fronts I now need to replace one. Could be more by the time Ive finished.
Thanks again for all the advice - very helpful.

Good luck when you come to fitting yours DaveS1

You may like to try a company called Aten lighting, based in Melton Mowbray. They have a web site but are helpfull on the phone too.

Fascetious? I can't believe it Dave

Regarding light output, I think you'd be pleasantly suprised. Certainly the 'warm white' one's I fitted were (IMO) not greatly different to the halogens I'd removed. The bright white are a bit stark, but I've dropped those into the reading spots and to be honest, find them a better light for reading by.

Right then Pam. Got you're photo's thanks, which confirm they are the same fitting as I thought and are which a pig to get apart!

Here's one of mine with the replacement LED lamp in-situ.

You've obviously sussed out how easy it is to pull the whole fitting out, but the awkward bit is opening them as I believe the heat of the halogen bulb causes an issue with the fitting. On the reverse side, you'll see the outer trim is clicked onto the main fitting by clicking together then a small twist to lock. I found it best to gently cut away the small pieces off the outer trim that engage between the trim and fitting (see photo below, although the pieces are already cut off in the pic. I think there were four pieces although I've only highlighted two positions in the photo).
This allows you to prize the two bits apart, but you'll find the glass lens will drop out.

Fit the replacement bulb and clip the fitting back together, but I found it went together again perfectly well despite my having trimmed off the tags.
I did find that the replacement LED lamp drooped downwards and wasn't perfectly happy with it's fit; I simply dropped a blob of hot-melt adhesive onto the back of the lamp before I fitted it into the fitting, then held the lamp tight against the fitting for 30secs or so while the adhesive set. You won't be changing these again, so no issue.

The main trick is to make sure the fitting and trim are clicked back fully as if they aren't, there will be a visible gap between the trim and the wood trim of the Heki into which they fit.

If you compare your fitting with the photo above, I think you'll see which tags I mean. If you do go down the same route, arm yourself with a new blade in a craft knife to do this and make sure you've some time on your hands as you'll need some patience to do this.

Finally, as the Heki lights are fitted and switched in pairs, you could consider just upgrading a switched pair to see how you get on.

Hope this helps you out. Once you've done the one, you'll suss out the best way to tackle the others. Just take it carefully.

Hey Paul. You are a star! Thank you for that info. I wont have time to order any of those ones now before the off on Friday but as soon as I get back I will give that a go. Dont like to let things beat me :)
The other type - 5 of the finger shape ones are ordered and hopefully on their way.
Will just use the kitchen light with the door ajar for the bathroom if needed at night, and get the led ones soon. Ive got a hot glue gun so will use a dab of that to hold the led disc in place as you suggest.
Thanks again - all expalined perfectly! :)

Thanks pee jay. Had a look at that site and it does look good. Sounds like they really know what they are talking about. Will keep them in mind when I get a few more. :)

You're welcome, I hope it all makes sence when you get stuck in.
Don't read too much into the use of LED lighting and worry about the potential of battery draw off the bathroom halogen lights; use of the lights will be perfectly ok (given the length of time you'll be in there) and although I realise you're concerned about being non-EHU, you should have no issue with your battery, although I do believe long term that the LED's will prove far better (LED 0.6w compared to 10w halogen).

Feedback once you've got your lights and feel free to raise queries if you have any.
