I think my charger is faulty but why would this cause problems for the mains supply.

Occasionally when I plug the van into the mains I get no mains power in the van and the charger needle is flicking between 12 and 15v.

If I press the rcd test, that works fine.

Is there a circuit which will only allow the 240 circuit to be on when a stable 12v supply is present.

Its a 2008 Compass Corona.

Leisure battery is fitted and seems to be working fine, powers my mover with no problems.

Strangley though, the stereo stopped working, Guess it didnt like 15V, its removed now though.

Just seems strange that whilst the needle is flicking about I get no mains supply.

As soon as the needle settles all then works.

Checked all cables, there good, and checked rcd and overload, they seem fine.

PSU/Charger is temperamental, switched on and got 13.7 stable which was fine, then next time switched on I got 31 V, which is not good.

So going to need a Charger.

Can anyone recommend something to replace it with. It was built into the consumer unit (a PS276) but the replacement doesnt need to be. I have plenty of room under the seat.

Why the charger having a problem effects the 240v to the fridge though I have no idea, can see anything obvious in the consumer unit either.

Maybe I have another problem lurking somewhere.

Got out there with the meter and stripped everything down for testing.

Mains into the van all good, all rcds and overloads ok.

Charger is the problem, sometimes 13.7v stable other times 31.7v .

Found several dry/loose joints in charger, resoldered but still getting problem so in the bin for that.

The reason it appeared there was no mains power to the van was the fridge not working and giving a fault of no power.

However, this is beacause the fridge control system runs on 12v so it was getting confused when it had 31v. Looks like it still works thankfully.

Need to get a new charger for definate now though.
