my question is this i have a 1995 fleetwood crystal and have searched the van inside out and cannot find a battery charger so am looking to fit one .it needs to be done on a limited budget and am not looking for anything fancy
when we recently purchased the van it had no battery fitted so we got a brand new numax 110ah battery and thought this may do the job charger
any advise please
I'm looking at charging the battery and the cheap solar panels only give a very low charge the figures quoted on eBay is at full charge and even at that it's very low I may fit one for when the van is stored but want a plug in to replace what I'm taking out when the vans in use
You could get the correct caravan transformer/charger for about that price. If you are only going to use it on site with ehu connected then you don't really need a battery & if you want to use it with battery on non ehu sites the only way of charging battery will be while you tow provided it is connected to car via 12s lead or you could just use a separate charger at home. transformer/charger here
Sorry double post I see it's a charger and transformer that looks better as we do use ehu and none ehu pitches depending on how long we're staying also sometimes the van can be stored connected to electric if we like
I'm viewing on a phone and the links are taking longer to show than the rest of the post to show
This is what i've ordered to replace our broken charger/power supply. I also considered that Numax unit, but having spoken to a few people, this is a better option.
thanks for that impster looks the part im trying to keep to a 10 amp max as i was told it`s best with older vans as the wiring is old too not sure if this is the case or not but he was a helpfull chap and a sparky too
so am looking at the same thing you showed but in a 10 amp. i liked the previous one from tents too cos it fed the 12v while on hook up
The amperor would be the one to get, I've sold loads of them with no problems with fitted wiring.
The MEC power supply Tentz mentioned is infact useless on it's own, it started life in the mid 90's as a 6A jobby but turned up to 10A, even 12A at one time!! but it's being worked hard so would not last long without a battery to back it up! On top of that, set at 13.8v it cannot fully charge the battery so that suffers and dies early.
The modern Amperor on the other hand is designed as a 18A charger, it has a set of switches so it can be set to the type of battery being charged, and if required, set to 13.8v and be used as an 18A/12v power supply without a battery.
Having said all that, I cannot believe a 1995 van has not already got a charger? are you sure it's not hiding behind the 240v/12v control panel?
Thanks for the info arc I'll add that one to my list
As for the charger my suspicion is it has been removed at sometime I followed all wires and have found nothing at all
