I am fairly new to caravaning. I have a swift challenger 390/2 which I love, but in the bathroom the water from the taps is intermittent and the shower does not work at all. The water in the kitchen area is fine. Also the hot water is very intermittent too. I believe the system used is a Carvan Crystal Water System. Any help or advice would be much apreciated.
I'm not sure on the age of this van but if it relies on microswitches for the tap operation, it's possible the switches have either become loose or failed in the bathroom.
Try drawing water in the kitchen and see if the bathroom taps run at the same time; if they work when kitchen taps in use, then switches are at fault on bathroom taps (switches run the pump, hence kitchen taps could run the pump and subsequently feed bathroom taps).
Any info on age of van?
Hi Brian.
I'd guess your van is mor likely to use microswitch operated taps then. Check the bathroom taps as advised above, while kitchen ones are running and see how you get on.
The switches only run the pump, so if the pump is already running from a good tap (kitchen), then the bathroom tap should run at the same time, regardless of it's switch condition (hope that makes sence to read).
Just to check; when you mention the taps are intermittent, does the flow just operate randomly or does the water splutter as if under pressure when they do work?
Check under taps and look for some wiring going to each tap. Depending on the tap brand/model, the switches are generally replaceable and fairly easily removed and re-fitted.
As an interim, you can sometimes get away with removing the switch and soaking overnight in a saucer containing switch cleaner, but operate the switch lever by hand while it's submerged. Allow to dryout for a while (fluid easily evaporates) and refit.
Hi Paul. I finish work this afternoon, so will get home and have a tinker about in caravan. I'll let you know how I get on..thanks again for all your help
Okie dokey.
Just for possible reference in case this link is of help, look here to compare common micro-switch operated taps as this site gives a rough brief on accessing switching.
