hi,
my caravan is a fleetwood colchester 1500-4EK 1993 & ive found a small 'spongy' area under the window at the front.
In my investigations the window seal has failed & allowed water in. my idea is to remove the seal to dry out the wood before refitting the seal & siliconing around the seal.
1. Will this prevent further water ingress if done properley?

2. How do i treat the spongy area inside the van?

Any additional advice would be much appreciated.

If the wood is that spongy then it will need replacing, not a bad job as you will have already removed the window rubber.

whatever you do dont use silicone as it wont provide an adequate seal after a few months,better off spending a bit more dosh and getting sikaflex.

ive read about epoxy resin being used to harden areas, cant this be used somehow once dried out?

the wood around the window frame is wet. do i need to remove the inner skin on the inside of the van where it is spongy to carry out the repair?

Just cut with a stanley the spongy bit. If the framework underneath is not rotten just wet then dry out and add new wallboard. Removing the spongy wallboard will also help speed up drying.

As Jeff said look on the fixed it club, I did and used Caradads step by step repai to fix the front of my van...
