HI guys, I hope you can help..

I own a '95 Elddis Wisp which we boought about 10 years back now and is in good and tidy condition. We keep it outside but under a fabric cover.

About 5-6 years ago, the frame strip over the front window cracked and split - leading to a trip to Catterick for a new window and major repairs behind the frame. Except that straight afterwards we had family problems for the last three years with elderly relatives which meant that we could not go away in case my wife had  to dart back home. So under cover its been for the last 3 years then.

We took off the cover a month ago to take a picture or two to sell it - as we are still not able to go away from the house - (oh the joys of being a carer, - not..) and we noticed  that the main frame one one side of the (new) front window had complely split across with a few more cracks in the strip above said front window.

Obviously this is now both undriveable for us to use m and more or less unsaleable.

Can anyone comment on why this should happen - and is there anything we can do (at reasonable cost!) to rectify it so at least we can still use the caravan, in the future ourselves, even if we can't sell it for anything more than scrap or spares. As I said inside, its dry and in very tidy condition.

Or do I call in the scrap dealer?

Many thanks for your time

Caravan Panels

or a breaker for a new front panel?

Could the 'van have been set up with some stresses from overloaded steadies? Has the front of the 'van come away from the chassis?

check to see if the front structure has failed at the floor level allowing the front panel to drop on that corner.

Agree with michael, that has taken some force to split, seeing as the van has never moved. Would check out floor for rot causing stress on the front panel. Have had mine replaced last year and the front panel alone from caravan panels was £700. Same again plus some for fitting........

Maybe the front was incorrectly fitted after the repair.

Just has a look guys and the chassis has not come away from the front panel and there is definitely no rot in the floor or frame structure - it is all bone dry. I moved the van forwards last year to paint the garage door and realised that I did not put the stabilisers down for the past year - that wouldn't do this, surely?

So for the life of me I just cannt understand how this has happened the front panel around the slit has popped out of the join strip and it looks like the whole window frame has readjusted itself.

The van is probably not worth another £2000 spending on it so sadly its  the breaker yard option  I sadly fear...

Thanks for all your suggestions & comments.

That's my thinking, from the picture the bottom of the crack is out further than the top, it seems to me the whole panel was pushed back and put under pressure. Standing covered, I'd think heat/cold would be enough for a weak point to be found and for the panel to crack and release the pressure it was under.
Pound to a pinch, if the awning rail is removed, a securing screw and it's hole will be found to be the weak point and the starting point of the crack.
