Hello

Guess pretty much brought it on myself but we bought a Bailey Senator Series 5 Indiana 2008 from a dealer in 2009. He gave us a 12 month warranty. Used it a few times and then we put it in storage as back and for living abroad for work so could not use it.

Did not get it serviced whilst we were away (i know-my bad :(   ).

We are back now just had it serviced and 70% damp in various parts of the van, Looks lovely inside with the exception of the bathroom (damp caused by tiny crack in back panel and other damp come in from awning rails... could have cried. Effectively knocked £4-£5k off the value of the van and it's on finance. Just dont know what to do....If i sell it then I wont get much and will have to find the difference to settle of the finance....

There probably aren't any solutions to this problem, I am grasping at straws in case anyone has any?

best wishes

Be of good cheer and take a look here;

Wizard's Caravan Damp Repair Site

The parts are repairable or cheap usually. If you do it yourself it shouldn't cost too much to put right, it takes time though.

if you have had the van for at least half of you finance term you can return the van without any penalties (as long as you are not behind with any payments). you wont make any money from the van but you will be free from you finance contract. hope this helps

It doesnt say much for the build of the van. Bailey surely have a reputation to protect.

Some vans used to give 5 or even 10 year body work guarantee. I expect they are non transferable etc etc but why not write to Bailey today and lay out your case in an unemotional way and simply ask what they are prepared to do about it?
They might say "nowt"....actually they are in Bristol arent they, so they wont say that. They might just say "Corsets alright my luvver, we will ...." You just might get a better deal getting it done direct. Point out that they can trouble shoot their manufacturing process and whats gone wrong etc.

Chin up, lots of good advice above too.

If its not been damp for that long would it not be fine once fully dried out (& leaks repaired obviously). Would it really be "that" rotten ?

We looked at a Bailey at a dealers in Leicester, before we bought our Challenger. That was a 2007 van with a damp patch hiding behind a curtain. We beat a hasty retreat from that one.

Get a pro in to repair it, if it cost's you 1k it is better than losing 5k. Of course the damage could cost more but does no harm to get a few quotes.
