Hi all. Hope someone can help out with some advice here. Going away for a week at weekend and have a few questions regarding water system.

I have a Bailey Ranger 470/4 1999. It has, I believe, a Crystal mk2 water system. From my understanding a lot of people have replaced this with the ultraflow conversion pack. Not sure if there is any reason for that at this point.

I know very little about caravans and was wondering about the filter above the water pump inlet. I have no idea how long the previous owner has had this installed. I cant even come close to removing it by hand. It is jammed solid. I know there is a removal tool and I also know there is a risk or cracking the casing. We never drink out of the caravan water supply and only use it for washing dishes. So, should I just leave the exisiting filter in or remove it all together or replace with a new filter? Do I really need one?

I am bringing the caravan home tonight to get it  prepared for our trip at the weekend. Few things to sort out. Mainly water troubles. The tap is leaking very slightly. It looks very similar to the Whale Elegance mixer taps. Could be the spout needs replacing. The water collects around the base that screws into the worktop but I think it may be coming from the the point of swivel on the spout. FYI, it is a pressure system.

My main problem though is the water pump is always running. On the last trip I switched off at the mains when we weren't using the water. On reading here today it seems it could be the pressure switch needs adjusting. Hope thats's the case! A fellow caravanner mentioned that it could be the plastic retaining clips that hold the pump in place outside. Not so sure about that though.

Thanks in advance for any help offered and thansk for all the people that take the time to help out on this site. The search engine is my new best friend.

You can remove the filter if you do it gentle with a spanner on the "handle"and a screw driver to turn it at the other.I would try and get it out as come winter there may be trapped water which when frozen will crack the housing. The pump will keep running because you have a leak in the tap and is not pressurising the system.Replacing the tap is a straight forward job if your handy with your hands.

Adjusting Pressure Switches
1) Turn off all taps.
2) Turn on isolation switch to operate pump. If the pump doesn't work turn the knob on the pressure switch clockwise until it does.
3) Open taps to clear air in system, turn taps off.
4) With the pump running and taps off, turn the knob on the pressure switch anticlockwise until the pressure switch "clicks" and the pump switches off.
5) Open the cold tap, the pump should come on within one second with a single click. If it doesn't, turn the knob on the pressure switch clockwise slightly until it does. Close the tap, the pump should switch off, try again.
6) Try the hot tap, it should come on within seven seconds, it doesn't turn the knob on the pressure switch clockwise slightly until it does. Close the tap, the pump should switch off within seven seconds, try again.
With a good pressure switch and using these steps above the pump should work when you want it and stop when you want it to.
If it doesn't there could be one or all of four problems
1)If the pressure switch keeps clicking turning the pump on and off, and you have noticed black bits coming out of the tap, the filter has broken, needs to be replaced and the pressure switch needs to be cleaned out.
2) The diaphragm has split in the pressure switch and the pressure switch needs to be replaced.
3)If it doesn’t work at all check the 12v supply to it.

4) Check the micro switch inside the pressure switch, (the most unlikely)

at this point in time leave the filter for another day as you may crack the outer case.clean out the system with milton, one tea cup full to 40 ltrs of water.ie fill as normal.leave in the system for one hour and flush with clean water.the tap possibly has a cracked spout (1) or a faulty rubber washer that can be replaced.reset pressure switch before you start.check you have no leaks outside once the system is filled a cause for the pump to run and run.

Thanks a lot for the replies. Had a go last night. Took the spout off, gave it a clean and tightened it securely. Leak seems to have stopped. Then had a play with the pressure switch and eventually got the pump to behave a bit better. Now when I turn the water on the pump starts within 3 seconds. When I switch tap off the pump switches off within 5 seconds or so. So thats an improvement. The pump seems a bit noisy and occasionaly goes into high pitched screeching mode. Maybe its on its way out. I should alos mention that I have left the filter as is for fear of cracking casing. Thanks again for all your help.
