you can try it on leccy out of the van/hole, if it doesn't already, stick a plug on it with a 3 amp fuse.

Have you tried running it on 240 volts? Mine gave very similar problems on gas because the gas jet was partially blocked. It would light but the flame was barely as strong as a lit match. With the jet removed and cleaned it was as good as new.

We have a portable three way fridge which I know isn't quite the same thing, but with us turning it over just for a few seconds to get the coolant moving works - don't need to leave it for any longer.

Well - It's now back in after being turned upside down for 30 mins.

I have switched it on and will post my findings !

During a conversation with Papa pip (graham)he told me that He was laughed at for suggesting to turn a fridge upside down.He has done this with a fridges and has never bought a new one.He also said it was wise to leave it for a few hours.

Well - After leaving the fridge on over night the temp was down to 3 degrees this morning and when I checked this afternoon is was 6 degrees so it doesn't seem like it has acheived anything. This is on its max setting.

I did only leave it upside down for about 30 mins though.
I could take it out and leave it for longer this time.

Does anyone else use a thermometer in the fridge to check the temp or am I becoming paranoid !

might sound stupid, but for these fridges, if there is not enough air flow, they can be too hot and stall.

The rear of the fridge should be warm, not hot, if its hot, the thermostat may not be working properly and leaving the element on all the time, overheating the system.

The back is hot. If I remove the vent covers and touch the pipes then they are too hot to touch, but I'm not sure how hot they should be.

I am starting to supsect the thermostat, but not sure how I can test it.

Also if I turn the temp dial all the way to max cooling then I can hear a click just as it gets to the max position. If I turn the dial down then I can hear a click just as it gets to the min position. I'm no expert, but should I be hearing a click somewhere near the middle positon and not at the end. (Hope that makes sense)

Anybody know how I can test the thermostat ???

Does anyone else use a thermometer in the fridge to check the temp or am I becoming paranoid ! 


 yes i do a fridge one,thing is its so warm now outside.put something frozen in the freezer box (ie.ice cubes in a dish) and leave it running on coldest setting if it de-frost then you know you still have a problem. i read about this problem with another fridge and it was thermostat and this was replaced by the dealer.

michael, the freezer is getting down to around -10, so it is freezing but is should be closer to -20

We don't use the freezer compartment much, so I just put a couple of ice packs in to try and help out.

My main convern is the fridge and we are struggling to get to 5 degrees on the max cooling setting.

Anybody know how I can test the thermostat ???

found this if you get out the thermostat.........

4

Test the thermostat for continuity using a mutlitester, a device used to determine whether an electric circuit has continuity. Set the multitester to the X1 setting. Place the two probes on the two terminals of the thermostat. The thermostat should let off a zero reading when cold and an infinity reading when warm. Replace the thermostat if it does not have this reading

The problem is knowing which temperature the thermostat should switch at.

After trying many different things I am no further forward with this, apart from to say the back of the fridge is very hot, but how hot is to hot ?

Should I try a new thermostat ?
