Sorry to hear about the dreaded damp,if the van is a private sale or trade it has to be fit for purpose,Get a copy of the advert,and go to trading standards or some other governing body.It clearly is not as advertised and you may just get them to pay for the repairs.Failing that get a refund and look for another,i would not shell out for repairs and a van i just bought

BEWARE of covers,we had one last year,cost £450 from protec,removed it in march and van is covered in black marks,they wont come off.It may cost us £400 to get it polished professionally.And it seems many more have had the same problem

Not sure how you would get on with a private sale. I think it would be very hard to get any kind of compensation, and may need court action. As I understand it, with a private sale it's buyer beware! A very different situation with a dealer though, as the Sale of Goods act applies then.

Where abouts in west midlands are you? I did a damp repair on my own avondale over winter and have some keswick wall board left.

We've had a soft bobbly board in the front corner of our 95 van for 6yrs, its never got worse and at last this year I think I found the culprit, the end screw for the rail across the front of the van was lacking in mastic so a little new mastic and some new rubber insert and hopefully thats cracked it!
I was gutted like you at first but its been a brilliant van and thats the only thing wrong with it so not bad for a 19yr old van!

Hi we brought a caravan coming up to a year in March,have just found out its had massive repair done to the back end before we had,and now we have damp!!! Gutted we are. Also had it on finance so not alot we can do.

When I was looking for a caravan my son I was amazed how many used Caravans were damp but described as good. Luckily the first few we looked at were obviously damp.and I then bought a damp meter in case others were no so obvious.After looking at a around a dozen or so more all were found to have damp ,some just small areas even spongy floors. Some were at dealers who said they had been tested and had no damp.

It is essential to get a damp meter .I am very cynical about it the Caravan I industry . Sadly first time buyers only find out too late as shown in many postings
on here.
