Hi all, this is a follow on from an earlier thread; i'd asked how to cap a gas supply to the caravan fridge (98 Sterling Europa) in order to try and repair it... unfortunately repairs unsuccesful and fridge is dead but the re-connection process seems to have sprung a leek... so ive turned off full gas supply.
A previous reply suggested there should be a connection that turns and caps the supply but this is not the case , is there a plug of some sort that will do the trick .?? ......... i know i should (and will) get this seen to by a pro but just wondered if there was a smiple way of doing it for future reference..given the age of the van..
Hello there in reply to your post you need to ascertain what size the gas pipe supply is could be dependent on the year of the van 8mm or 10mm, 5/16ths or 1/1/4 then you will need a straight connector of the same size and finaly a blanking nut again the same size job done then of course check for leaks.
hi telecaster, thanks for this info , thats great. i'm back out there this weekend but the 'caravan man' that visits the site wont be there until later on that week so i have time to give it a go before i fork out for a diagnostic and the last rites... i'm guessing i can pick these up connectors up from ebay ???
No problem mate you should be able to get what you need from any caravan shops with a stores just find the size of the pipe before you buy.where did you buy the van from was it a dealer or private???
ok thanks for the info davecoaches. i think an earlier post told me about some sizes e.g 8mm or 10mm, 5/16ths or 1/1/4. i'll ask around .. thanks to everyone as always.
Plumbers merchants will have both sizes. 1/4" is the same as 8mm. Just pop in there and ask for a 8mm stop compression fitting. You will need 2 spanners. Very easy job but if you are unsure get a pro in. Gas leaks can and will kill,!,,don't take chances
