In July i went to purchase a new Lunar caravan from Catterick caravans subject to seeing my part ex ,on seeing my van they said it had a serious damp problem in the bathroom and would cost £1514.00 to put right. The van i was trading in i bought from them 18 months earlier which after traveling 50 miles home after picking it up found the furniture had came away from the wall of the van, they said it had being kerbed after pointing out it was on the wrong side of the van they said you have had a blowout on a tyre to which i pointed out they had just fitted 4 new tyres and if they checked they would find they where the ones they fitted ,they then said a pothole to which by this time i was getting a bit annoyed and the final insult it was suggested claim off my insurance to which i said no,in the end they repaired it. 2 weeks later i took the van on its first outing, set the van up went to the local store came back opened the door and got an a very strong smell of gas.Back it went 3 weeks later got the van back, off we went again set up and had a meal only to find they had not connected the sink waste back and ended up with lots of dirty water over the floor. This van according to them had being inspected /gas tested/damp tested & valleted and given a clean bill of health,Now we come to the good bit.

The deal with Catterick caravans fell through because i would not pay them for the repairs so on the way home i called at Kimberly caravans also a Elddis main dealer  and was quoted £400-£500 for the repair which they described as slight dampness in the very lower corner of the bathroom, because i bought a caravan from them they split the cost of the repairs 50-50.I sent a email to Catterick caravans informing them of this and true to form no reply.

Ladys and Gents when it comes to repairs shop around i saved £1264

It's not just when it comes to repairs it's also true when it comes to dealers. Shop around and if you find a good dealer then support them with your business and let others know.

Hi.

I had a problem with a Swift i bought from kenmoore caravans about 15 years ago , i paid £7,000 for it and they said they would give it a 150 point inspection before i got it !.

We went away for first time in it and the front windows leaked and we found soft wall in the upper lockers , they had it back in for 3 weeks to repair. 12 months later and we again had damp in the same place so i repaired it myself only to find they had only replaced the wallboard and not reseald the area or replaced the rotten wood frame. So under warranty we did not get a good repair only a bodged job to get by untill the warrenty ran out.

I then traded it in at Dickensons Caravans for a Bailey which needed a bit of work , they did the work before i got it and after 8 years we still had not problems .

I think Catterick caravans gave you a right run around with your van and to not connect your sink back up was very careless of them , sound like Kimberly caravans are ok to deal with.
