I have a 4" x 3" timber post set in concrete outside the greenhouse, and the copper water pipe runs up it to the tap. To protect against frost I have lagged the pipe and now I want to case in the whole caboodle and fill the interior with small foam globules. I need to have some strength in the finished post for fastening a suitable plastic part of a wheel to the postface above the tap to hang the hose over
Question: Will exterior ply suffice or should I use marine ply,... or might hardwood be O.K. for the quantity involved??
Plastic sewer pipe or an offcut of a large water main or gas pipe. All are very strong, wont rust or rot and easy to cut or drill. Can be sprayed with plasticote or similar to change the colour. If you use sewer pipe you can probably use a branch or access branch fitting for the tap. With a smaller post you could have possibly got away with a large drain pipe as a cover.
