We recently purchased a new end of line “Suncamp Encore” awning (April 2012), we like the awning and think it is great value but there is a problem which showed the second time we used it. The roof holds water on both of the outer panels adjacent to the caravan awning rail; we had pitched exactly to the maker’s instructions but to no avail. The rain water collects between the awing rail and the centre roof pole in the two outer panels ( left & Right) and as it collects the material sags under the weight of water allowing  the material to stretch further and form what looks like a large water filled balloon when viewed from inside the awing.

We have tried numerous adjustments to the guy ropes and pitching etc but without success. I had noticed that the “Kampa” awning has guy ropes to the back poles and as a temporary measure attached one to each side of my awning near to the top of the back poles to add tension to that part of the roof (width wise). This made some improvement but did not solve the problem. I believe that the two panel’s were stretching a little further under the weight of rain each time it rained during our ten day holiday and that the primary cause was or possibly is, too much roof material sewn to the corded awning rail insert at the rear of the roof.

The amount of water that collects is alarming and whilst on site last week I was approached by a fellow Camper who had recently purchased the “Mira” awning version, who was experiencing exactly the same problem. I am shortly going to write to” Suncamp” and speak to the supplying dealer to ask their opinions and reactions but expect the usual denials. If anyone has similar problems I would appreciate you posting your experiences on this site and I will quote from them in support of my letter. The fellow Camper mentioned previously is also making a complaint and I should also mention that his previous awning was a “Suncamp” and he had experienced no problem with that awning which is why he bought the “Mira”.
