My heater is leaking water once connected. I have not taken out or anything. I have only removed outer cover. Outside caravan. No water leaking inside. Water not leaking through drain plug. Water runs out from under the unit and runs out on the metal casing. Any ideas or, is it easier to change whole unit?

When you remove the cover for the carver cascade outside is it leaking from just above the fins just above central point? I had a leak from this area which i found out was my fusible plug. Gary at http://www.arcsystems.biz/ will help you out with any carver problems tho.

There is a large diameter O-ring that seals the main water housing to the front casting, this is probably leaking due to corrosion around the O-ring seat.

You can change the O-ring by removing the cover (usually a single nut at the back of the heater) and removing the main water housing. The O-ring will be visible at the inner side of the main casting.

While you are there, check that the long rod that passes through the water isn't corroded.

The models with electric elements are slightly different, you have to remove the element and connector box first.

Gary at ARC Systems will be your best contact as said above.

This is going to sound odd, but is the 'fast drain' screw (top left of external heater cowl) closed - My mums carver heater was doing something very similar & the fast drain valve was open - looked like it was coming from the bottom, but it wasn't!!

Am sure Gary will be along soon!!

I'll start by saying it is not easier to change the unit, change it for what?, no new Carvers and a second hand one may well have problems a fortnight behind yours!

Difficult to guess but as no leaks are obvious outside, I'm thinking the main tank seal is leaking and the water getting out through the gap left by an incorrectly fitted gas burner module. You will need to remove the inner cover, which is under the main cover outside, to investigate further

Many thanks abigailsmum. The fast drain valve had cracked right on the heater. Heck of a job to get it out and then bought a new one that was sold as fitting caravan 1 and 2. Unfortunately, I had to cut some off to get it to fit. Working now.
