Good afternoon all,

We recently brought a Lunar Delta 560/4 on a bit of a stupid whim from a friend of the family.

Turns out that we've been completely shafted, and the van is rotten in places.

That said, the caravan is otherwise lovely and has all the things inside that we would like for my wife, young 9 month old and I.

I've already had to start work on stripping back the wood and replacing it as when we arrived home after a weekend in Paignton, the cupboard above the bed had fallen down due to the damp wood being so soft and crumbly.

I've uploaded some photos to here: My damp caravan shots
and have been reading loads of the Fixed It club websites for their takes on how to repair all of this, and so don't feel too bad, but yet it is still daunting the amount of work there is to do!

My plan is to replace the wood and also the polystyrene - I've seen various different takes on what to use for the insulation - what do people here recommend?

Also, how have people approached the floor wood batons? We need to replace it from the wheelarch to the front...

Your thoughts would be welcomed :)

Why replace the polystyrene? If you take it off, the walls will be VERY floppy as the aluminium is thin as paper! It could then be tricky getting the new foam on flat and without bubbles etc.

I reckon most if not nearly all old caravans ie 20 yrs will be in a similar state, but it just doesn`t show - until the cupboards fall down!  Not all the timbers will be completely rotton;  I would concentrate on the ones holding the screws from outside.  Try drilling extra holes through the metal "sealing" strip (a tiny pilot hole only through the caravan wall into the wood) and if it holds a screw, you might get away with an awful lot of work. . . . if you waterproof the outside then the inside will dry out, and you can deal with the rest at leisure, whilst still using the van if it`s roadworthy.  Best wiahes; I`m having fun doing much the same to mine!

Just looked at the photos, yikes, Bad sellers, they mustve known, its outrageous selling it in that condition. But nevermind,  you can do it,  you may have bought a lemon but in time she'll be a peach and well worth what you paid, she looks lovely from the outside.

Keep updating, it'll really help others to see how its going
