I went to go in my caravan, which is in storage 65 miles away, to find that the door lock appears to have malfunctioned and I couldnt unlock it.

I assume the lock is broken and needs replacing, I reckon I would be able to do that, My problem is, how do I get in to remove the lock from the inside?

I would be very grateful for some quick responses,  as we are booked to go away in it in 13 days!!!

Thank you

Ive looked on fleabay and I think the lock is a caralock 2000.

I am thinking of ordering one, and drilling the old one out.

Is this the right thing to do?

I am going to call my local caravan dealer for his advice, it seems as though drilling the barrel out is my only option at the moment. I may replace with one of the high security types (round key)

Thank you

I've spoken to the dealer who has confirmed that i need to buy a new Caralock 2000, drill the old one out and refit.

As its in storage 65 miles away, its a job for next weekend. I'll post the results up here,

Cheers

Before you drill out the lock, can you not try sliding a metal ruler between the rubber and the window to see if you can open the catches then gain access thru said window. Must be easier than trying to drill out a lock......

Hi Fleetwood,

I may try that just to gain access, although I'm pretty sure the lock has failed and needs replacing, so Ive nothing to lose in destroying the lock. I've ordered a replacement, and the store that sold it to me advised me of an easier way to get in, rather than drill the barrel out,

I'll not post in on here (seems irresponsible... although I'm pretty sure theives can get into our beloved vans in a flash)

Russ
