Hi can someone help me and my hubby brought a 4/5 berth Abi marauder 3 months ago of a caravan dealer for £1100
we have recently discovered it has serious damp
who would we make a complaint to and do we stand any chance of help

Did the dealer offer a warranty & what is their comment on the situation? I'm guessing caravan is around 1990, yes?

Im guessing it was sold as seen and he knew about the damp. Problem being,you will have to prove this.Trading standards will give you the information you need and the consumers rights..

Sounds like me al over againjeff doesn't it. I learnt the hard way from ebay though.

I very much doubt there was any warranty for a £1100 van. I think you'l end up having to put this one down to experiance to be honest. 3 months is a long time with no warranty, ie, no come back!

Sorry but im just being realistic.

A common place for water ingress on 80s Marauders is around front grab handles, easily cured by sealing around them.

I paid. £1300 for my 1991 jubilee envoy from a dealer. It was sold has a ps trade sale with no warranty. I got a safety check and chassis service for this price. It did have damp, but it was an easy fix. I think it all depends on how its described when sold by dealer, with mine he pointed out were it was damp and any other faults . The invoice I have clearly states trade sale, no warranty.

My Swift Corvette 1990 I bought privately for £600 including all accessories including a new NR awning had damp. Cost me £120 in materials and a few DIY hours to repair and make it waterproof. That was 3 years ago. It is still dry, lighter than it was when I bought it and has paid for itself. Caravans are very simply made.

hi, we brought an abi jubilee not knowing it was as rotten as a pear,we brought it sold as seen,i nearly passed out when we found the damp, but with the help of the good ppl on this site my husband has replaces all the rotten frame and ut is nearly finished...end result we have a cracking little van....it doesn't cost alot if you can do the damp yourself.....
