We have our caravan on a season pitch, and just as were ready to leave on Sunday noticed that one of the Heiki Rooflights was leaking
As it was too late in the day, and starting to snow again, we dried off as best we could and covered with tarpaulin. I plan to go up in a couple of days to take the rooflight out and refit using W4 mastic tape but not sure about the weather.
If it is cleaned off, and dry, is it okay to fit if it is cold/damp on the day? Can't afford to wait until a fair day! If I do fit it and it rains half hour later will it be okay, or does the mastic have to "go off" to seal properly?
Things didn't go to plan - after two of us spending more than two hours cleaning the roof and rooflight, we put on the W4, overlapping at the corners as suggested. Installed and clamped, left for 10-15 minutes and then final tighten. Left it an hour, and put small amount of water on roof using watering can to test. And then watched as the water dripped into the van
As it was 4pm and heavy rain forecast from around 6pm, quickly taken out, cleaned again and installed using a tube of IDL99 from the site shop. Clamped, watched as half of it squirted out the sides, and sat and waited.
After 6 hours of heavy rain, all dry inside :-)
In future the cheaper (albeit slightly messier) IDL will be used. Now just have to try Ebay and get some money back on the 2 and 1/2 rolls of W4 that I don't need!
Im not a really big fan of that tape and do prefer a sealant myself.IDL 99 is good for leaks but the oil in it evaporates and it turns to a powder after a good few years and, being used on the roof the heat from the sun could make it evaporate quicker..well thats my theory.
Ive come across this with vans i have bought and resealed whether needing it or not. Sikaflex is the way to go these days.
I went with the tape as it does seem to get decent reviews from people, and looked to be fairly hassle free and non messy. When that didn't work, IDL was all I could get.
It does seem to have done the trick, and I'll hopefully change the van before I have to take it back off!

I,m another fan of CT1and as beecherk says it will stick even in the wet and the bond is unbelievable and can be painted over .I am a joiner/ builder and use it for sealing and sticking many things
