Started to move caravan along drive this morning when right hand motor stopped working, did the usual thing an swithched off then on a couple of times, still no luck. Phoned powertouch and explained problem, straight away the guy said check the terminals on the motor, did this, they seemed tight but gave them a waddle anyway and wallah the motor worked. So when I have sorted the van I will clean up the terminals on both sides. By the way the mover is just less than three years old and normally works great. Thanks to Powertouch for good advice.

So when I have sorted the van I will clean up the terminals on both sides. By the way the mover is just less than three years old and normally works great. Thanks to Powertouch for good advice.

yes i had the same problem with our powrtouch mover a few years ago,still under warranty the fitter came out and removed the rubber cap on the right hand motor.pulled off the terminals and cleaned them.been ok from then on.ours is  about 7 year old now.

Same here - when we got the van it came with the mover. One side didn't work. Under the rubber cap the terminal was not very well fitted. I remade the connection and then all was fine.

I will check them again when we get some nice weather as they are quite exposed to the elements even with the rubber cap fitted.

I'm not sure about this so if an electrician could advise, would it be ok to use coppaslip on the terminals?

Not sure if ours is the same as others, but the connectors are just simple push fit spade connectors.

I was thinking of changing them for something else (not sure what) or even soldering the wires directly onto the motor connector.

When I fitted my Powrtouch I put a small amount of grease on the spade terminals after making sure the spades were a good tight fit. I then pushed on the rubber covers into the correct place, the at the front of the motor's I coated them with grease level with the edges of the rubber cover's. This prevents water entering down between the rubber's and the motor casing's which is where the terminals are, this was about 4 years ago. Last year I took the cover's off and cleaned all the semi hardened grease of to check the terminals and they were all as clean as was when new, so I redid as I did when new.

i would be tempted to use vaseline as we used for battery terminals or common use grease.just a case of keeping water and salt air out.

I had a similar problem with mine and a waggle sorted the connection.

Last time out, in the middle of France the van moved a couple of metres then stopped.After much head scratching and tugging of leads I replaced the battery in the remote control and everything was fine!

Seems to have been happening a lot recently. Mine did the same thing at new year and there have been a number of similar threads in the last few months. I would be inclined to cut the spade terminals off the wires and fit new ones.

If there has been a bad connection, the spade will have got warm which will have allowed it to soften and become loose on the motor so once the problem starts it will compound on itself.

A smear of vaseline or silicone grease will offer a little protection from the elements.
