Hi all i have a compass magnum classic 534 and im keen to change as many of the interior bulbs over to LED's as i can. I think that the bulbs are classed as G4 fittings, two pins that push into the fitting.
Looking at the various replacement bulbs available it would appear that the lights work better or need an LED compatible transformer. Does anyone know if the transformer in the Magnum is compatible or no a way of checking that it is? Or has anyone else replaced there bulbs with the new type G4 led lights such as these?
I have fitted LEDs like that as one of a pair of G4s in an overhead light without any problems, as long as you remember that they have polarity unlike ordinary bulbs. This means that you have + & - but in reality if you plug it in and it doesn't work just turn it round, it won't do any harm. you are using 12 volt DC in the van, the transformers are if you want to run it off of mains voltage say, in a light at home.
As the others have mentioned, these should be a direct replacement and no LED drivers/transformers are necessary.
This is a little out of date and needs updating, but link might be of interest all the same - click here.
I've changed to led / smd (Surface mounted diodes, same thing but refers to array). Don't expect anywhere as much light output as 10/20W G4. But OK if you really want to keep amps down when no EHU is available.
I got mine from EBAY Emarket4un. No problems, and a fraction of the price charged by UK sellers.
The light output depends on the amount of LED's present.
I've got a bagful of these Chinese things with 4 or 6 'spots' on them.
Scroll through ebay and order the ones with at least 26 on each 'bulb', sit back for a few weeks (delivery) and the result will be illumination at least as bright as the standard.
Make sure that you order the 'soft white' as the others give out a very cold and uninviting light.
