Hi
We have a Sterckeman Starlett 430DD caravan about 3 yrs now. Twords the end of last season I started noticing a bit of a funny smell when entering the Caravan. A bit like dead leaves/ Mushrooms. I parked the van up for the winter and thougt no more about it till last week. I gave the van a good going over and low and behold the whole front was Damp... rotten in fact.
On further inspection I noticed that where the gas locker meets the GRP panel under the front window the panels overlap and are secured with an aluminium rail. The rail is about an inch too short either end and where the panels overlap there was absolutely no sealant sealing the overlap. Water was getting sucked in by capilliary action. the front of the van is sodden.
If you own one of these vans check inside the gas locker reach up on either side and you'll feel a wooden beam. If this is wet then you have a problem. My brother has the same make of van and his is wet too. I was always of the opinion that continental vans don't leak.. yeah right.
Wish me luck in my rebuild.
Shay.
