Hello everybody. I have a small crack near to the handle at the rear of my 1996 Bailey Ranger, which I am assuming is made of fibre glass. It is about 11/2" long and so I was wondering if I could just fill it in with some clear rapid set Araldite as this glue is very flexible and clear. I dont want to take the units out of the van to get behind it and I cant afford to take it to be repaired proffesionaly. What do you think? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You could do that. Epoxy isn't UV proof, so a touch of paint or gelcoat filler on top would be a good plan.

some years ago on a small crack at the rear i used a clear varnish as given with the paint touch up kits for a car.worked really well,no water has entered.try a small patch first as paint could blister.

the best way is to try to make a V groove along the length of the crack ,to give the glue some bite ,ONLY use origional araldite ,it takes 3 days to cure but is totally waterproof when set (used it on model boats) ,also once applied it might help to cover repair with sellotape till set ,this will ensure a smooth finish .
i would start by making the v groove along the crack ,the put a strip of sellotape either side about 1-2 mm away from crack ,mix araldite and fill crack without overstuffing it then apply a top layer of sellotape straddling the glue and on to the two pieces sellotape ,smooth down with gentle pressure from a old credit type card ,leave to set 2 -3 days ,then remove tape .this should make a super neat job
try to avoid the rapid set stuff as its not waterproof

Yes ,it ensures a smooth glossy finish ,used it on gel coat repairs many years ago ,the secret is ensuring enough time is given for the resin to set ,and not to overfill repair ,the top layer of tape ensures the glue does not run downhill by gravity as well

You still need to coat it with something. UV weakens epoxy and turns it brown over time.
