Hi gang, can someone tell me if it's ok to use 3mm hardbord to replace damp panel that I have removed, its at the back of the van which has the bunkbed above & window in middle then I was going to cover it in that contour paper, what ya think ??

I wouldn't use hardboard , i'd use plywood as it's stronger and shouldn't soak up moisture so easily where as hardboard will .

I used 3mm ply off an old interior house door, painted with neat PVA then covered in wall paper.

wizard just been on your site
and was going to ask the same - theres only 5mm ply here in co antrim or 3mm hardboard
marine ply is the only option but jeepers its pricey

A quick search shows a company called MS Timber in Belfast who have 3.6mm ply (found in their panel products guide) They only sell to the Trade but a call to them might put you in touch with someone who resells. it.MS Timber

I would never use hardboard in a situation like that. It has virtually no structural strength, is hygroscopic (soaks up water) and will bulge between fixings which in a short period of time will pull through the hardboard.

Hi Travis Perkins have 3mm ply but try to sell you 3.5 mm as to joiners .5 is nothing when matching up board in a van it's huge.
