hiya , need help please.

i have a 1994 elddis hurricane  , i have just bought , when towing the van it seems to crash into the back of the car when braking. After looking at the Alko hitch the red one fitted it seems to have a lot of up and down movement.  After removing  the Alko hitch the two bolts holes on the hitch are ok , but the two holes on the draw bar are not , the horizontal bolt hole on the end of the draw bar is now oval and the bolt that i removed has worn down on the shaft. the vertical bolt and hole are ok.

can you fit a Alko hitch to a elddis van  bpw  chassis or does it need to be a winterhoff type , the Alko has been on the van for about 10 years .

The bang when braking will be failed hitch damper, so you will need to replace this. The hitch is a separate fault, it sounds as if the retaining bolts you mention have been loose for some time so you need a new drawbar tube as well if the holes have worn oval & new bolts for hitch. The Al-ko hitch may well be ok & could be used again, it can be used with BPW chassis.

ok thanks, the damper was checked out with  jacksons of old arley a caravan shop near coventry.  he said the damper was ok. the shop said  try some new bolts with the old draw bar  but she aint happy with that solution.when i came to remove the Alko hitch all the bolts were really tight . i am trying to buy a new draw bar but finding it hard to find the correct one.

thanks.

Agree with tentz the damper is shot.i had the same problem of banging.it also bangs of take off as rule but as noisy.slight up and down movement is normal.
