My fridge is in need of a service - I've read the threads on doing so. Can anyone give me any tips on removing it. For instance, how is it held in and by what/where?

It appears that my plea for advice regarding the removal of the fridge from my Lunar Meteor could be construed as infringing the boundaries now considered to be strictly appertaining to The Corgi persons. I should now make it clear that to limit the cost such unskilled work should not require to be undertaken by one so qualified, its the replacement and testing that does. I have now referred to the pre Corgi threads regarding fridge removal and found them to be practical as usual.

Remove the covers outside to reach the connections on the rear. There are four grommets inside the fridge 2 on each side near the door. Remove these to access the fixing screws. The fridge should now pull out. I recommend having someone outside watching to make sure nothing catches and if needed to give it a shove.

The electrical connections are accessed easier once the fridge is pulled partly out. Don't forget to disconnect the gas, mains and 12 volt supply beforehand.

If you want to work on your caravan yourself, you can do whatever you want. Regulations you mention only apply to those doing repairs as paid employment. If you just want to clean the burner you can probably do this by removing lower outside vent on caravan & accessing it from there.

Thank you to Dave and Tentz - By the partial ignitions shown through the fridge flame sight window, I suspect that the burner requires cleaning I will try the lower access vent firstly. happy vanning to you.

To clarify the regulations, gas work must be done by a "competent person"

If you do it yourself and get it right then that's legal as you proved yourself competent.

If you do it yourself and get it wrong that's illegal as you proved yourself to be incompetent.

If a Gas Safe (new version of CORGI) fitter makes a mistake he is still competent as his Gas Safe certificate proves but just had an off day. This relieves the property owner of negligence although the Gas Safe fitter could still be prosecuted.

In applications where safety certificates are required these have to be issued by a Gas Safe fitter as this is the only proof of competence officially recognised.

If you only have partial ignition then the appliance wiil be giving off CO beware if not correctly repaired it could prove a fatal mistake

It's probably a bit of crud in the jet. The burner is sealed off from the living accommodation so CO is not likely to be a fatal fault provided the seals around the back of the fridge are intact and the flue and vents are unobstructed. Fresh air enters the back of the fridge through the bottom vent, runs up the back of the fridge, past the burner and out of the flue, taking any CO with it.

However, if the flue exits into the awning then a build up of CO in there could be a fatal problem, particularly if the awning is zipped up and the caravan door is open, but even with the caravan door closed, CO will build up in the awning. Eventually, this will get pulled back into the fridge vent where it can cause further combustion issues, allowing unburned gas to escape up the flue, eventually building up in the awning until some oxygen gets in when you nip outside for your last cigarette and ignite the gas build up. (This scenario would take a LONG time to happen though and would need your awning to be airtight!)

I took the bottom vent off expecting to identify the burner situated and recognisable at the bottom of the chimney. Low and behold it is not, I suspect there is a further dismantle to overcome in order that it may be exposed - any tips?

Just to suggest that I'm not totally inept, would I be on the right track if I thought in terms of loosening the chimney in order to lift it and expose the burner? (and just to make things worse winters returned and I'm freezing)

No you do not lift the "Chimney" to get to the burner - there is a screw securing it to the tube - you need to remove the shroud to gain acces to it

This is Incorrect - there are a number of other officially recognised qualifications that cover you for working on gas appliances and supply systems

With the bottom vent removed, the burner is on the right with a tin plate screwed over it. It's not a burner like a cooker, just like a pilot light.

thanks to your various advices I can place on record that it is not possible to service a Electrolux RM4326 fridge installed in Lunar Meteor caravan without removing it as follows:-  Having ensured that 230v, 12v and gas are disconnected - 1, outside van remove fridge exhaust cover and extract the short pipe thereby exposed. 2. inside van. with fridge door open, remove the travel lock keeper from the fridge body, locate and remove the small square plastic covers from the top and bottom of the fridge door opening 3. unscrew the four screws (exposed by removing the covers 3) 4. the fridge can now be pulled forward to expose the gas and electric connections on top, 5. after taking note to enable refitting disconnect. 6. The fridge may now be pulled clear of its housing.
