After a wet 2 weeks last summer in Devon we had problems with water running down the side of the van from the awning rail, wasn't sure if it was a problem with the awning or the rail, any how we recently bought a new Kampa 390 awning and used it for the first time last week and after a heavy down pour the same problem occurred again, I had the van serviced in March and we have no damp problems. Can I reseal the rail with out removing it and if so with what ?

If you have no major damp in the inside of your van why seal the awning rail ? It does sound though if the water is running on the OUTSIDE of the van when the awning is up the space on the rail where you slide the awning into has widened.
You can close the gap by tapping with a rubber hammer but care must be taken not to close it "To"tight..

Is the awning rail one continuous run or is there a join in it? I had an old ABI that had a join in the rail and water would run down from the joint but the van was still watertight.

That's why I asked Jeff, I'm still new to this and didn't want a potential long term problem, will have a go at closing the gap as suggested, the rail is one continuous run Gary but the water comes in at the same point so would think Jeff is correct .

It could be coming in through the stiching along the awning beading. try a tube of seam sealer.

hi i had similar problem with my van last year put some sealant on the underside of the awning rail as the awning was up for the season it helped but still water came down the van when i took the awning down i cleaned and sealed the top of the awning rail and this year up till now has been ok
