Hi I am trying to sell my 1992 elddis cyclone caravan and have just been made aware of a couple of damp issues.
These are the front corner at floor level and back corner at floor level, on closer inspection i can see some rotting wood when i look underneath the caravan on the corners in question.
Is it possible to easily repair this ??

Easy repair? Yes. Quick repair? No.

If you're selling the van and it's a 92 then chances are a professional repair will out weigh the vans value and a DIY repair will likely take 25+ man hours.

I'd list it on ebay stating the damp problems and see how it goes. Someone with more time than money will likely have it off you.

Try running a bead of silicon underneath, so that any rainwater drips of the silicon, and can't 'creep' onto the wood underneath. We had a similar problem on our 1995 Swift caravan. Seems to have been solved by the simple addition of a small bead of silicon. It's not meant to 'seal' anything, just make it more difficult for water to 'creep'. If that doesn't make sense to you please ask again and I'll try to explain difrerently!

(of course, if the damp is getting in from the sides or top or awning rail this solution won't solve it)

Hope it helps.

Hi
I have caravan on ebay on a classified will let that run and then stick it on auction. It wasnt until last night when someone who obviously knows more about vans than us came and viewed it that we were aware of the damp. It has never smelt and there is no visual signs internally at all. There is a tiny soft spot under one of the seats on the side wall and the floor inside the bottom cupboard right on the front edge is a bit soft. How would i know where the water is coming from ?
Will try the silicon thing can see that might help if thats where the water is getting in.

Thanks

On ours i'm pretty sure that the damp is caused by us parking the van off-level (when not in use). This causes rain water run off to favour one corner. Too much run off in the said corner meant that the water was creeping underneath, and fidning it's way onto/into the floor panels.

Seems to have stopped since using silicon.

We're going to re-seal all rails on it later on this year anyway as it hasn't been done for a long time according to what I can see.

Worth a shot with the silicon - 5 minute job.
