hi, can anyone help me with this problem?
The gas won't stay lit in my grill - Swift Corvette 1997
we don't use the cooker much but it would be great to be able to grill things instead of frying all the time.
All four hobs light as does the oven, but as soon as you release the knob on the grill it goes out!
If everything else is working apart from the grill then it's probably just that the jets need cleaning as it sounds like the gas it not getting through.
Be careful if you are undertaking your own service on a gas cooker but the link below offers some advice on the colour of flame required plus how the grill works which may help.
Have you tried holding the gas knob in for 30 seconds after you have light it. On our van we have to push the gas knob in light the hob, grill or oven and keep the knob pushed in if not then the gas goes straight out.
There will be a thermocouple, which is a short thin item which should be just inside the flame when lit. There should be one on your hob too.
This is a safety device to cut off the gas supply if the flame goes out. If the thermocouple is not in the flame when lighting, it won't get hot enough to allow the gas to stay on. These are quite small items which can easily move if the cooker / grill has been bashed about.
Have a look to see if there is any movement in it and if you can get it into the flame.
If it is there already, it could be something else or it could be damaged and in need of replacement.
I would agree with stephenn280575. Almost certainly the thermocouple. This is a very important safety device to prevent the device from spewing out gas where there is no flame. If in doubt get a gas safe engineer. A cheap fix for anyone qualified.
i had the same problem last year on my van. i borrowed a air line and cleaned it all out. i was amazed how many breadcrumbs came out. works perfect now.
