I have a Carver csacade rapide water heater fitted in my caravan and cannot get any water to flow through it. I have tested the hot water system by by passing the heater and water flows freely. Any ideas what is causing the blockage in the heater.

Hello Hitchman. Sounds like the one way inlet valve is faulty, causing the problem by not allowing water to enter the heater. Probably needs replacing.Cant imagine what else it could be.

This is the probable culprit.

We had a similar problem with a cascade water heater in that it was filling with water, but nothing was coming out of the taps.  On investigation (emptying the heater tank) a lot of limescale came out of the drain hole.  We filled the heater again a few times & then drained it using the 'rapid' drain valve which removed a heck of a lot of limescale (basically kept doing it until there was no scale coming out with the water).  after this, we had no problem at all & de-scaled the heater when we got home.  It seems that the outlet from the water heater to the taps was getting filled up with scale preventing water flowing through.

think the non return valve is not letting water through.to check this remove the drain plug outside and get someone to switch on the pump,if nrv is ok water will gush out.if nrv is faulty water will only trickle out.the descale can be done by filling with water and white wine vinegar.leave a few hours then flush out.

You can also try slightly unscrewing the water filter to let air out just incase there is a air lock.
I did it a while ago and it worked, worth a try.

After 1995 when it changed to black plastic, it is more often a sticky non-return valve which is part of the cascades cold water plastic inlet fitting.
I can though be a blocked water inlet drilling up into the tank as mentioned above

I used Truma Aquastar 1+2 which is not only a limescale remover but a discinfectant too. When I flushed the hot and cold water system through afterwards I was amazed just how many green bits arrived in the wash basin that were descaled from the hot water tank. It's worth doing about once every five years just to keep the heater element free of lime scale which in turn will heat the water quicker.
