Does anyone do DIY jobs or work on their vans etc whilst away. Last time we went local had some strange looks from fellow campers. I was taking off stands on friends van has they have broken.
Wasn't noisy, seems to be best time to do stuff. I can see me taking more tools than leisure equipment soon

New Vango Orchy 500 to try STILL! STILL!
We had a bed frame collapse on the trailer, it was already weakened by the accident that wrote the donor 'van off, but it has all been repaired now, 2 years later!
We had our satnav cradle break one year, found a guy with a 12V soldering iron and some Araldite, that is still running.
Other than that, we haven't had too many incidents, but we do carry a decent spares kit and range of tools. Took a complete clutch with us this year to Holland as the car was juddering a bit, but it was OK.
only running repairs, ie if it breaks while I'm away and need to do it to carry on.
I carrya selection of tols, cable, soldering iron etc anyway, so Ive always got em.
got a fairly comprehensive tool box ,and if its a major job your never that far away from somewhere selling tools etc .tis funny i never advertise the fact but twice last year while away i was approached to sort out other peoples electrical problems .????
We were on holiday a few years ago when a couple turned up and parked next to us,after setting up they then went off in there car and returned about two hours later with a roof rack full of wood planks, sheets of MDF and all manor of other stuff and then set about banging and sawing drilling you have never herd anything like it.We never saw them for about 3 days then they came out jump in there car and drove off so I had a look in the window only to find the van was totally empty apart from a porta poty two sleeping bags and a load of tools it look like they were re-building the inside of the van and they did this for the whole two weeks then left how strange is that.Ian

I need to repair always on site as my van is in storage there.I have replaced a kitchen tap (needed to take the sink out) battery charger, and made two pumps into one as at the time i couldnt get one..mind you in six years of having it i cant complain.
Our van stays on it's pitch all year so anything that needs doing gets done on site. Having said that, we do try to be considerate of others who have just come away for a quiet weekend. Next week is earmarked for shampooing the upholstery so will leave it till midweek when the site should be quieter.
I'm planning on removing and resealing a few external bits and pieces while were away this summer. All on the side in the awning. The awning will keep everything dry should it rain and I don't get time if I'm not on holiday.
im always doing jobs on my van,we have a season pitch in cornwall which is 340 miles away so there's always things to do,just finish repairing a leaky roof with the help of a good friend bill at callose, the roof was full of holes caused by electrolysis, used soudal fixal with a sheet of plastic really good repair
