Hi all on a recent service/safety check the caravan service agent said your spare wheel carrier has seized (from years of winter use)
I can free it for you at a cost of £70.00 😱how much I don't think so!
Last weekend on a site I removed the spare wheel carrier with wheel attached by taking the split pins out.
Then removed the wheel from it. Once it was off I applied plenty of release oil to the slide tubes and after 10 mins started to free the first slide it took around about 15 mins using plenty of oil and a washing up scourer.
This was repeated with the second slide until both worked very easy and then refitted.
The whole job took about an hour all together and cost about a £1.00 for the oil and pence for the scourer saving £69.00
So this will be checked each time I go out from now on

When you get chance grease the tubes with coppergrease you will never have that problem again wonderful stuff

Greased mine with Castrol LM grease when I got it about 15 years ago never had a problem.

Check out waterproof RED grease on ebay. Normally pops up in the motorcycle section and is used on Motorcross bikes. Fantastic stuff. Re-grease my motorbikes once a year just before the on set of winter and never had a bearing etc fail.

You forgot to factor in the 1 hour labour cost, don't know what caravan service engineers cost. Seems not too bad to me and you wouldn't have got dirty or your clothes.

Good for you, that's the choice you make, how technical a job is it? can I do it myself and save a load of labour costs?

Time is money I know but it seems a bit savage to me, I would have done the same coz 70 big ones is a lot for a relatively straight forward job. How did it get in such a state, has it been included in the service each year?

I won't pay any one to so something that I can so my self
The caravan is 7 years old we've had it from new and never needed to use the spare.
So I suspose it must be part of the annual service/safety check.
We have used the van year round including in 2' of snow so it could of been all the winter salt but its sorted now
It's going in for a water heater repair as it needs plugged into a dionostic computer

What are the symptoms of the heater. I wasn't aware that there was any control on there that can be plugged into a computer.

It wont run on gas had it out stripped down cleaned the burner thermo coupler etc buy still not operating.
It's the truma ultrastore and its run by a pcb on there it's got a 3rd connection for the diagnostic to plug into so its getting sorted
