Well 2 half rails off and my lovely Hubby hard at it this morning. Not sure much more of the Sikaflex is going to come off the side of the van and I've got the task of getting both Sikaflex and Mastic off the rails.
Above looks like the culprit of the damp and the skin of the van is damaged.
Thinking a good repair with Sikaflex will be a good job?
Yes! Needs to be cleaner tho. Green scourer, white spirit, meths. Gloves!
Not sure that is Sikaflex as Sikaflex doesn't tend to yellow. Damaged bits need to have Sikaflex well inside. Might be good to mask up the area 2mm or so clear of the rail, apply Sikaflex to the 'van, remove the masking tape as soon as the rail is on (Screws not too tight as you don't want to squeeze all the Sika out) then clean up to a fair radius with clean rag, white spirit and meths.
whatever it is, it's an absolute pig to get off. The residue left is after a full days cleaning with a paint scraper.
It's certainly some sort of sealant, as comes off as a rubberized strip, but tends to leave a base layer on whatever it was stuck to.
Thought the rail would be the easiest bit! How wrong was I!
carefully use a very sharp chisel for the van, keep it flat to the van and take your time but chisel needs to be very sharp
the rails run along inside them with a stanley knife then use a flat screwdriver to push it out
it looks like a pu sealer possibly sikaflex
