Thinking ways to increase the water flow in my van.

The Submersible pump suppose to pump 14Lpm, and I am lucky to get 1Lpm at the taps. (43s/Lt of water)
I am waiting for a new 12mm inline one-way valve, as the one inside the Truma w.pump housing, perhaps sticky or too small...?(so, I will remove the existing check valve from behind the pump housing (from inside van remove the 'o'ring the plunger springs back away, then from outside the van drill it out) and replace it with the inline one and hope that will improve).

Now my question is, has anybody tried to fit a booster pump as well? and where?
Thinking to connect a second sub pump in the aquarol that way I hope to have more volume and pressure. The cost total under £20.
The inline booster pumps do not increase the volume, they pump with more pressure.

Will have to adapt the cables though, join them together, to take DC V simultaneously.

Can it be done like this? Or do you have a better idea?
Or perhaps you can see something that I don't see?
I am worrying about the current draw 2 pumps

P.S. THERE ARE NO AIR LOCKS in the plumbing!
Thanks.

Are you sure your system isn't choked up with lime scale?

A good dose of Elsan Fresh Water Tank Clean Might solve all your problems!

Thank you Al+Mel.

The pipes are clean. I get the same volume/pressure from either hot/cold tap. So the problem should be before where they split for the heater. In other words the incoming supply has the problem.
I just wish that someone could time how long takes him to fill 1Lt of water from his sink tap and say so!
It takes me 43 seconds /LT.

Daft question perhaps, but have you checked that the aerator on the end of the tap spout is clean and muck free?

The aerator's generally unscrew from the end of the tap spout, but sometimes you might need to protect the fitting with a cloth and use an adjustable spanner to start it off.
There should be a pair of flat points on either side of the fitting to facilitate this.
Un-screw and check for debris, clean and refit.

If you find this helps but you're still unhappy with water flow, you could also consider swapping it out and fitting a higher rate aerator instead.

Worth a thought as the aerator is often overlooked.
If you're whole system is effected then, I'd perhaps consider a sticky non-return valve, which it seems you've already started to investigate.

What make/model is your van? I found a separate NRV on a colleagues van that was playing up; he thought he only had the one integral to the water inlet housing, but it was an additional in-line valve that was causing problem in his instance.

Aha now we are talking Paul

The Van is Avondale Leda Chiltern.
As far as I can see, the water is coming in the van at a Truma housing with one small NRV. Then in 20cm tees off to feed the water heater and continues to cold outlets. No other NRV as far as I can see.

Just there is where I am going to fit a new inline 12mm NRV and see.
I slackened the jubilee clip in case had deformed the NRV, but no difference.

Before going to the trouble and expense of additional pumps etc I would measure the volume from the pump before it goes into the caravan system and again from a connector along the pipework in the caravan. That way you would identify any potential problem areas. You are never going to get anything like 14l/min out of a system. I think the Truma figure is the free flow rate ex pump with no back pressure.

I didn't time the new pump Lt/m, but for sure when it worked for a few seconds before being connected to the van, it gushed water like a fountain. So I think I am ok there, any way she is brand new one.

not wanting to put a damper on your modifications, are you sure your present pipe connections can cope with the extra pressure?

Check the electric connections and or state of the battery. On my old Adria the wiring at the connectors was pretty corroded so I chopped the wire back a bit to nice shiny wire and the difference in flow was amazing.

Is it a cheaper pump not a whale one or other decent brand.

Mate bought one of those little orange ones and although it worked, It was damn slow.

Wired upto the battery and just the waterbutt. Raising the oulet pipe more than 12" and the pumps flow reduced dramatically, Raising any higher and it almost went to a dribble.

It was useless with any back pressure.

Thanks Guys
michael:
I have no worries with the fittings and extra pressure, When I used the compressor at 150PSI working pressure to blow out any sh*t from the pipes, the joints are still there to tell the story... (pipes a bit fatter though LOL)

discoadria:
I'll have a look at that, but I doubt as the van is in a good nick all around...

Grampian91:
The pumps that I bought are white and they are "Reich" I don't know if they were made in 1945. LOL. 14 Lt / m.
Can not wait for the stuff to arrive and have a go at it.

First I'll change the NRV and note/publish the difference, then I will add the second pump into aquarol and ...register the pattern.

how old is the existing pump, I was pulling my hair out with mine, off the van, it pumped absolutly fine, but on the van was useless.
in the end, I connected it up to a hose to simulate the lift required form barrel to tap, and it turned out the pump just couldnt lift water anymore, new pump, all was sorted.

flow rate was just about the same as originally, with no "head" as soon as you asked it to lift the water, it just didnt/couldnt.

I could happen to all of us!##

I put a new pump this season as the old one gave up the ghost. But then I could only get a trickle out of the taps, and there is where I started investigating the problem.
Give me until the end of the month, I will get all the bits together, don't forget I am in Bulgaria and the UK post here takes ages to arrive, so, when I get it fixed I will post and talk again about it.
Don't forget at the mo. I am getting 43secs /Lt of water, lets see by the end of the month???
