Help!! Found damp in the van april last year in roof over fixed bed and some in side wall (bathroom side) as no time or skills to repair took it to a highly recommended repair/sales locally. Was stripped out and repaired, guy took photos all along, thinks was small crack in roof that over time water had seeped through and sealant on bathroom wall. Now this caravan cost a lot of money(for us) so we decided as the layout is perfect and we intended to keep it long term that £1000 for this to be repaied was gulp worth it. Now we had just had the van serviced after the summer and he has reported bad damp in exactly the same places that have been supposedly repaired..... Cant beleive it.... There is no way we can afford that kind of repair cost again. As soon as we are able(due to husbands work commitment) we are taking it back to the guy who did the repairs. Where do we stand regarding guarantee, quality of workmanship, who will foot cost, any advice or help glady received. many thanks
If the guy who repaired it is reputable, he is likely to stand by his work and fix it. You really need to talk to him.
If you have a caravan you need a damp meter. With your own damp meter you could check the status of a repair, to see if it is drying out or getting wetter.
It could be damp from previously if it was not dried out completely before everything was resealed and reboarded. I have seen timbers still wet after being under infra red heaters for about a week, the moisture is deep into the timbers. The original repairer should have some responsibility whatever the case and unless he can prove to you that he dried everything out I would pursue things along the lines that his workmanship was of not of a standard suitable for the job he carried out.
