hi guys
just baught our first caravan as above there is a slight issue with the front window I is the full width window it is leaking from the top of the window and the curtains are wet through is there an easy fix to repair this im going away next weekend to try her out but would like to get this issue fixed before we go out
If it is the fixed non opening front window & the water is coming in from around the rubber then spray some silicone lubricant all around the rubber from the inside & plump it up with your fingers, that worked on mine.
Unless its water ingress, ie water leaking through the caravan, then, short of stripping out the inside all you can do is run a bead of PU sealant like Sikaflex along the top of the metal strip that seals the roof about the window & hope that fixes it. Its also a good idea to put plenty of sealant around grab handles front & rear as water comes in through those as well on ABI's of that era.
Hi yes its the fixed front window style and looking at it the seal isnt touching the window at the top is there any way of removing the window from the hinged part and making it a completely fixed window thus pulling it onto the seal well
I wouldn't start removing window if you can avoid it, you could open a can of worms, like rotten battens. Proceed as I suggested, give rubber a good spray of silicone lubricant from inside & push rubber up into window. You will find silicone lubricant among the othe spray oils in Halfords etc.
If the rubber is no good & needs replacement & you have to remove window, unscrew the bits at bottom & sides inside & window will lift right up & out same as a normal caravan window with catches. You will have to hope window is not pulling away from top due to rotten frame.
ok been to the storage site today there has been plenty of rain last night/this morning went in the van and it is dry thankfully looked at trying silicone to help the seal but this hasn't worked so looks like a new seal will have to be fitted. also went to look where the water was getting in the other day and there is a split in the body behind the window!! I now think that this is the culprit of the water coming in
what is the best sealant to buy for this job
cheers
Steve
I also have a crack in the bodywork just behind the window (same model and make - probably same era)
Rather than take the whole thing out, my service guy said it would be best to dry the area out clean and degrease with meths, then seal the whole window unit on the outside, all the way round, with a clear sealant. He said that on no account should I remove the front window and that I'd be 'asking for trouble' if I did. I will try his suggestion and let you know the outcome.
