Hi All
I'm just starting to repair the damp on my 1987(?) ABI Jubilee Rallyman. I'm going to be documenting it all on my blog at http://garethhowell.com/wp/category/caravan

I'm at the stage of removing the internal fittings, and discovering, as have others before me, that the 'van was assembled by 16 fingered goblins! I'm having particular trouble removing the over box on the right hand front side.

I can remove all the bracket fittings and visible screws to the adjoining wardrobe, but it appears to be nailed to the roof as well!

Has anybody been there before me? Any ideas on how to remove this other than by using a chisel between the top of the box and ceiling to create a space for a single ended hacksaw to cut through the nails?

Gareth

I should have said that I have found the excellent ACE Pioneer Restoration site at http://www.girvan.f2s.com/index.html. The Pioneer was built using similar techniques to mine, but the damp was in the lower part on that project.

The ceiling wallboard is probably stapled to the overhead lockers. Some folk have used a flat scraper and hammer to cut the staples. Might be worth a go.

Using a hacksaw between the locker and ceiling board sucks. Much easier to use a good quality wall paper scraper and hammer as suggested above. A good sharp blow cleaning shears the staples.

Thanks. I'll try using a scraper. Sorry for the slow response, I just noticed the notification in my SPAM folder.

Back again.
I tried the trick with a scraper and no good. These are nails not staples.

I've managed to get a bit further but I'm now at a point where the ceiling starts to slope down towards the front and I just can't force the blade in between the top of the unit and the ceiling.

I've been putting wooden wedges in once I have created a gap, but the plywood on the front of the unit starts to crush before I can create a gap.

Any more ideas?
