hi bought a caravan with end bedroom we will be living in it over the winter we have been leaving all cushions and bedding in place so that we don't have to keep making a bed the wall where are pillows are feels a little wet just where the pillows are I have felt all the wall and around the window and wasn't wet anywhere else is this damp or condensation thanks caz
It could be either, or both, a damp wall will be cold so cause more condensation. I'm guessing this is an old caravan, yes? As a quick fix seal the external seams & grab handles with a PU sealant like Sikafles 512. clean seams first with meths & do it on a dry day. Stand sealant cartridge in hot water for a while first to soften.
sounds like condesation for sure.try corriagated cardboard in a few layers at the rear and on the underside.this enables the air to flow round to prevent this.bitty but something like egg trays will do same.when the inside is warm and the walls cold then condesation is high.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
We had the same problem on our long weekend in Durham at the beginning of this month...water running down the walls behind the cushions...thought the window seals had gone so I moved them out of the way and wiped the walls dry....kept heating on low overnight and during the next day. The second night was even colder outside but no condensation . I have read on other forums about pre heating vans before use...ours had been stood on the drive for a month before we went away with no heating on....so would recommend pre heating and creating an air gap between the wall and soft furnishings.

I agree with Michael leave a window on the night catch.
Just a thought, but our Coachman has a piece of faced plywood the length of the front seating and about 18 inches deep fixed on vertical battens which act as air passages when you have the bed made up so the pillows cannot touch the caravan wall..
May be something you could fit as a very simple solution, and the seating cushions cover this when set up as seats.
thanks beechbuggy great idea we will make something like that this weekend I've just put a dehumidifier in wont that be just as good as to letting us know if we have damp I don't see the point in buying a damp meter that I will only use once thanks anyway
