hello there, I'm sure somebody will be able to answer this  - just an annoying fiddly thing.

We've had to remove our front lower running lights( by gas locker )a few times and the holes for the retaining screws are now too big . I don't want to use bigger screws so what is the best type of filler to use. Some where I've read that  the stuff for car bumpers might do the trick. I think the body is GRP. Many thanks  and happy xmas!

Hi  You do not say what shape of lights if round just turn so screw holes are 90 degrees from original postion if  shaped and must stay in line with original holes and holes have lost there thread as usually with self-tappers  purchase four small diameter alumium wallboard threaded sockets,  the type that crushes up behind the wall board as you tighten screw you might have to open holes out to 8mm but hole in centre is about 5mm. this should prevent you having to enlarge holes through light lens which will most probably crack and cost a small fortune for new ones. once fitted you will be able to remove lights as many times as you like. But why do you have remove lens/lights so often are you bulbs for ever blowing are they the feston type bulbs if so you must be buying the chinese ones try Pifco or Everready may cost you a £1 more than cheapies, but I have only changed 1 in 8 years or perhaps you have a problem else were which causes the bulbs to blow

Thanks for all your  suggestions .  The light holder are shaped therefore cannot be fitted the other way round . The  bulbs arent'  blowing  but the push fit connectors inside both lights have broken ,twice needing the  whole light to be replaced.. Considering the age of our van , the amount of use and really bad weather it's been through , I don't think this is too bad ( just general maintenance) ..

We also had some  repairs done which meant taking out gas locker flooor so  the lights had to be removed for that as well.. If I have to go down the route of using these different fixings, how easy is it to get your hand up and inside the back of the body work to hold it in place .?

Anyway thanks again all of you . I will report on  progress or not!

Hi Siobhan Have you ever drilled a hole in the wall at home and pushed in a rawplug and then screwed in a wood screw to hold something to the wall.        well wall board threaded sockets are same idea you dont have to hold from behind. and they come in a packet with very clear instructions I think you can get a packet of two for £1.99 or £2.99 for four in Wilko,s. They also sell them in any Diy store They have a fixed washer about 4mm bigger diameter than the hole you are instructed to drill, this washer will push up against the outer face of your van you then put on the light backing plate and the lens if the screws pass through the lens to secure complete light. the centre of the tube inside the GPR starts( to open out like the splines of your brolly when you open it) this then tightens up and locks against the rough inside of  your GPR van front. If the backing of your lights is rubber this will make agood seal around the thin washer, and the securing screws are engineered bolts not self-tappers and will last for years to come just put the slightest smear of petroluem jelly on the thread when you screw in. donot use WD40 or anything similar as this attacks plastic and will discolour your gel coat finish on your GPR. Good luck
