When I first bought our caravan I had exactly the same problem. Turned out that the previous owner had snipped the coaxial cable and pushed it the back through the hole in the roof but wasn't actually visible till I tried to trace the underlying fault and found the problem. The omni directional aerial had broken so I presumed the previous owner then just used an outside aerial instead. Anyway, I replaced the aerial with an identical one (second hand) and re-connected the coax cable to which the problem was sorted so it's best to check the connections if a signal has not been obtained before. The booster box needs to be switched on as well as this is required to obtain a signal.

We have never had any success with the status type aerial. We use something like this clamped on to the jockey wheel

caravan aerial

As Tango55 says, check all the connections first. There is very little to wrong in the aerial itself.
A common fault is the cable sheathing shorting out in one of the coaxial plugs.
Also check that power is getting to the booster unit. You should have a red light on.
The jockey wheel mounted ones work well but it is something else to carry and put up and take down (always when it is raining)

As 'DaveS1' said, it's a bit of extra kit to carry and not an easy item to store either so that's why I preferred to make use of the permanent roof aerial rather than a temporary aerial that requires setting up with a signal strength meter each time you set up. I can't fault the omni directional aerial actually even though some have negative comments on them because we have never had a problem receiving a signal as yet. From my own experience I am glad that I got mine fully operational once again but like 'DaveS1' said you never get caught out in wet weather having a permanently fixed aerial on the roof.

There could be problems receiving digital freeview in some areas with this type of aerial as they were originally designed for the old analogue signals.

Still you may be lucky and get good reception depends on where in the country you are.

We use one of these http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/log-periodic_aerials.htm clamped to the grad handle and pushed into the ground

It could be the amp I had a similar problem if the graphics on your Ariel are purple the amp is in the Ariel head if they are red the amp is in the matching box.The red option a new matching amp about £20 is worth a try if its purple a new Ariel is the only option a new status directional Ariel usually can be fitted in the same spot. Also for freeview reception a directional ariel with in built signal finder is your best option.

That would suggest then that your Status booster is kaput. I had one fail, although the red power led was still lit, the mosfet amp had burnt out. I would guess the type you have is the later 'orange' version (logo printed in orange) and these are still available or the newer Status amp's are compatible too.
