I am hoping someone may be able to help me.
My old caravan has a Whale GP51 foot priming pump with a inline centrifugal pump afterwards that feeds the kitchen & bathroom sinks with cold water.
I am struggling to get water to the taps, the foot pump has had a new seal kit fitted thinking that this was the issue but still my problem persists, the centrifugal pump seems to be spinning ok and the impeller is all intact but it just wont pump water up the pipes, so i cannot decide if the foot pump is not priming properly as the line does not seem to be filling properly. At the moment the water is being held in a 25ltr barrel at the rear of the van and a lower level to the inlet connection.
Any help would be appreciated.
Stating the obvious, but have you connected to the correct inlet/outlet?
The last van I had with a foot primed pump was an old 1978 Abbey, and both the inlet and outlet were next to each other and were of the same design, so it was possible to connect the fresh water to the waste and vice-versa.
Failing that, try holding the inlet hose up, and pour water down it, while someone in the van is pumping it by foot and the pump (i.e priming it without the need to draw up water). That should enable the water to flow through and then take it from there.
I used to have a van with that setup and I recall that you needed a pipe with a non return valve in the barrel to stop the water draining back before it gets to the pump - could this be your problem?
