We had one fitted to the outside of our van, did a great job, and at the same time he fitted another internal socket for us.

they wont damage your van, or it wont let damp in at all.

I paid £75 for the outside socket and a socket to be fitted inside

The simple solution is to copy what i have done.

Go to a local CEF or Edmundson Electrical wholesaler and ask for an IP45 socket enclosure, mount it just infront off your wheel arch underneath the van and wire it all in, the IP45 enclosure is totally waterproof and you can buy them in double or single socket outlets. These cost about £15 a unit plus the cost off a socket.

Then just have a short lead extension socket plugged into it inside your awning with 2, 4 or 6 outlets on it (or as many as you need).

Its a cheeper way of having one proffesionaly fitted to the side off your van and does just as good a job :))

I have fitted the mains/12V flush inlet to both sides of the van near the wheel

Towsure and caravan dealers have the complete unit at £8.95 for the 240V and £ 11.75 for the 240/12V

The offside one is fitted between the fridge upper and lower vents and the nearside one over the wheel into the bottom of the wardrobe. Both positions gave easy access to existing wiring.

I made a template from cardboard a lot bigger than the hole so as to protect the van side.A hole drilled at each corner and a cut with a pad saw made the hole in the van side and this was sealed with the mastic tape

The unit has the facility to either stick the 240V socket to the housing or have a trailing lead which I prefer.

The 12V sockets on each side make it easier to plug in a tyre pump etc

You can even just wire the 240V as an extension lead with a 13amp plug on one end to plug into an existing van socket if you are not confident about the wiring connections to the van electrics
