how much liquid do I put in waste tank..?

This would surely depend on the quality of the liquid you have. Are there no dosing instructions on the bottle?
In general, I use the waste outlet cap and stick in half a cap full with a litre or so of water, just to cover the bottom of the tank.

I use a capful and cup of water. .... gives more room for 'other' liquids as if using the 1 -2 litres of water as on instructions would fill up more quickly and need emptying more frequently

Jeff, taste just like the liquid ones and Bill I dont have sugar or milk so no need to double up.....lol.

I find them a lot easier to use and they allow the OH and kids to do them without chance of spillage, just open the blade and drop one in.. Never looked if better value for money compared to liquid or not. I like them.
