Anyone have any suggestions on which sealant for awning rail replacement? I have used CT1 on 'waterproofing' an old Land Rover with great success but don't know if it would do for a caravan, plus once rails would be put on with this they wouldn't be coming off any time in the near distant future!
There's two schools of thought. Non setting sealants like mastic allow easy removal however they dry and shrink over time causing leaks. Setting sealants like polyeurethane don't deteriorate with age but they are a bugger to remove if needed.
On my reseal I used a combination of the two. Mastic tape and seamseal over the actual joint and then a bead of PU18 along the edge of the rail. I've seen it before and the logic is you have the best of both worlds. A seal on the edge which won't dry out but if needed the awning rail can be removed by cutting the smaller 3mm or so bead of PU sealant.
