Hi,
Here is a photo of the damp in our 1990 Abi Ace Viceroy. It appears to be worst at the front, underneath the window and affecting some of the left wall. We have been encouraged to try and fix it ourselves but don't know where to start. We really could do with some very detailed help and advice please.
Thanks
Sarah

As pointed out in the other thread, first seal up the outside with Sikaflex 512 or similar PU sealant. The repairs are self explanatory, just carpentry. Wood & polystyrene insulation, stick together with exterior grab glue. If you want to use caravan, a quick bodge is all you need.

If you try to do too much you will just open up more cans of worms. For example if window frame is rotted then window will have to come out & frame timber will have to be replaced. Its a pity you have pulled that much off already. I would let it dry out, bodge in a bit of timber using grab glue, fill in gaps with polystyrene insulation, cover with thin ply & paint.

The alternative to the above bodge is to seal exterior properly by removing trim strips & not just over the top as in suggested bodge. Then remove interior around the area, remove both windows, strip off the wall boards, replace all rotten timber & replace insulation. Again just carpentry & straightforward, no special techniques involved, just the will to do it is required.

We will start by resealing the whole of the outside properly and let the caravan dry out before taking any more stuff away. I am concerned that if the front window frame is rotten then the safety of the caravan is compromised when towing?
Where do you get the polystyrene from?
Is it possible to fix the timber frame from inside the caravan without having to mess around with the exterior panels?
Thanks for the advice - I love the bodge options - is it a lot more work to do bodge number two and take the windows out? Is this quite a difficult thing to do - we can't really see how to take the
front window out - any ideas?
Sarah

I think your best course of action, is to do some more research before you rip your caravan apart. If you do a search in this section you'll find loads of threads about damp repairs. Even if you just look through the previous pages.
Make loads of notes.
We found that the best way for us was to remove the damp inside before sealing the outside. That way you can find the source of the water ingress and repair property. Plus if you seal the outside outside and find that the rail you have sealed is attached to rotten batons you need to remove, you'll have to do it again.
Don't despair, it's not difficult. Have you done any reading on wizard's site?
You can get most supplies from any DIY place.
