Hi there, to one and all.
Its the new rookie calling. I'm all in a tiz.
My partner and bestest friend in the whole wide world, (also my 24/7 carer), and I, this year, as a full time project, are in the current process of restoring and modifying a nice and tidy but not so little, 96-97 Elddis Crusader Storm? We hopefully will be utilising Beauty, (We named her thus, as the car is called Beasty), hopefully, for this summer to tour the Highlands of scotland with our two wee dogs, we always wanted to go there but never had the time before, what with everything going on, I shall not bore you with the details, of which there are many, but until now that is and hopefully also for the foreseeable future too, then perhaps venturing elsewhere, somewhere nice, hoping to enjoy my retirement at last, oh happy days.
Caravaning is not new to me but sadly having had a break from it for over 15 years now, I have noted many changes that have occurred, Air conditioning? Showers with hot and cold running water, sheer luxury. Thetford cassette, (never heard of them, is it a boy band or is it a group of singers)? Only joking, really. (I still have my bucket though). There have been many changes though, for the better I must say. I so enjoyed it then and look forward to it again. One of the best things I can remember all be it a few years ago now.
Over the many past years, I have had two static and two touring caravans, one of which was a total rebuild and a full restoration project, taking me almost two years to complete, in between work and other commitments with the family, kindly of late, sadly after losing a son (HM Forces), and a wife along the way, who suddenly decided to take flight having considered, that being my 24/7 carer and nurse for the rest of my days, was not part of the matrimonial commitment.
We, my partner and I, now having bonded together since my disablement from HM Forces, (IRAQ, 2003), have tackled many tasks without problems but alas I have to admit that when it comes to changing 12v electrics, without instructions, I am at a loss and not so knowledgeable as I would like to be, therefore we seek kind assistance from one who would clearly know about such things.
We are at present converting the 12v triple, double and single fluorescent tube type internal lighting units that most caravans have installed, (7 units in total) to LED lighting, saving power from the battery also bulb life, this alas is where I am stuck.
Having now removed the offending units, I have just realised that I now require new rocker switches to operate the new LED's. (The old units have integrated switches, on/off, within and cannot be utilised since we are only keeping the outer shell of the old light units and replacing the inners with new LEDs).
I am aware that you can purchase the new LEDs for this type of fitting, but having 15 tubes to change at about £16.50, (cheapest we have found), each, it becomes rather costly, so we are reverting to installing our own light fitting but still require the outer shell, hence the need for new rocker switches to insert into the old apertures the old ones have left within the shell.
My 2 questions are thus,
1. What type of rocker switch should I purchase 2,3,4,or 6 pin? All units are switch on/off at light source. 2 units are at light source however, also separate additional switch incorporated by main doorway to galley light unit, plus one other at the door to cloakroom to toilet light unit. I believe they are referred to as two way switches?
2. What would be the correct method of wiring to which contacts upon the switch, ie if say I have a 3 pin rocker switch, earth to terminal 3, live to terminal 1, and switch live to terminal 2.
We both have much to be getting on with at the moment but I was hoping to have ordered the switches by now but alas I confess I am at a loss, so if there is anyone out there willing to explain in the simplest of terms possible. PLEASE, We, especially myself, would be eternally grateful for perhaps a few moments of your time.
Hoping with anticipation, so I can at least get the switches ordered, armed with the deemed knowledge that I then know what to do with the wiring.
Kindest of regards
