Hi all,
Your help so far on this website has been invaluable in my attempts so far to bring our 1st van back to life!
I have now rebuilt where required (most the front and back end) and resealed outside. Beffore putting interior walls back in I want to put some wiring in to convert the old gas mantles to electric later on, I plan to have hook up and need to know a)what sort of wire to use and b) does it need to be on a 'ring' as a normal house lighting circuit would? Obviously Iwill use an electrician when tthe time comes but hoped to get some wires in place for these now.
Also the van had 3mm polystyrene "insulation" ( I use the word loosely!!) And 3mm ply inside, I plan to upgrade this and was wondering if something like 20mm kingspan type insulation between batons would be OK?
Many thanks in advance
Just use the white 1.5mm cable for your lighting, Go for the 12v led.like Grampian says, wire into your zig box 12volt side, The sockets, Its up to you if you want to have a ring main in there. i wounld make a ring main myself. But an old van like you have, I wounld leave the gas mantels in there as well, They are so cosy and look the part.

Its not a hangover, its wine flu!
When I was a child we had a Monza 1977, not sure of model but it was grey along the bottom and white at the top with a black plastic strip on the back. It was a solid van, they don't make them like that any more!
A ring main only makes sense in your home with a 30A circuit off a distribution board. In the caravan you have a 16A Max incoming supply so radial circuits for sockets within the caravan is the appropriate choice. Because it is a relatively flexible structure compared with a building, caravan sockets should be wired with flex not solid cable.
As others have said, lights are best cabled for 12V supply.
Boston 600, ours is that model ! It has the glass windows and yes grey bottom with the black at back. I think the cushions which came with it are original, a lovely orange colour!! It has double at front and a pull out bench double at back but not sure if this is original or not.
Thanks for the advice re lights, I will go with the 12v option.
